Volunteers with A Little Help, a local nonprofit organization that connects neighbors to Salida and Buena Vista’s elderly community, say they are looking for more volunteers for their June 2 Service Saturday. The service day helps elderly members of the community to remain in their homes.

“We’ll focus on providing outside chores to our community’s senior members,” said volunteer coordinator Sara Ward. “This includes spring garden clean-up, window washing, gutter cleaning and other small outside chores.”

Those who can volunteer for the project day should meet at 8 a.m., June 2, at the upper parking lot of the Presbyterian Church. Volunteers will work in teams from 9 a.m to noon.

“Then, at noon, we’ll host a barbecue picnic lunch,” said Ward. “Volunteers are encouraged to bring garden tools and work gloves. We encourage those who would like to volunteer to call me at 719-966-7366 or email me at sara@alittlehelp.org.

Ward said the Service Saturday event is looking to work in teams at 18 homes in the Salida and Buena Vista areas that are served by A Little Help. “Ideally, we would like to get at least 20 more volunteers so we can accomplish all we’ve planned,” said Ward.

A Little Help has also posted a volunteer hotline at 719-966-7366, or volunteers can visit the website at http://www.alittlehelp.org> and click on the Service Saturday link.
