For the music aficionados in Chaffee County, be sure not to miss Tengyue “TY” Zhang’s performance at Salida High School (26 Jones Ave.) this Saturday, July 29.

Zhang is an internationally acclaimed classical guitarist, who’s won awards in Russia, China, Austria and America. In 2017, he won the Grand Prize at the 2017 Guitar Foundation of America, International Concert Artist Competition, which is one of the most renowned guitar competitions in the entire world. He was the first Chinese performer to win the award.

The concert, put on by Salida Concerts, Inc. in conjunction with the Aspen Music Festival and School, is the latest in a series of classical concerts they’ve produced  this summer.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., but doors to the Salida High School auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m. At 6:45 p.m., attendees will be treated with a pre-concert talk by Zhang.

Tickets, which can be purchased at this link, are $25 for adults and free for students. If an adult brings a student with them, their ticket will be half-price.

The night’s setlist will be a far-ranging journey through the wide world of classical guitar styles and genres. Zhang will open with an homage to Mozart titled “Introduction and Variations on a Theme by Mozart” by the Spanish guitarist Fernando Sor.

Over the course of the seven compositions which will follow, Zhang plans to perform his take on well-traveled pieces by Bach to more contemporary masterpieces by composers such as Roland Dyens, a revered French guitarist and composer.

Zhang’s virtuosity—honed at the Juilliard School in New York—has taken  him across the world to Sydney, St. Petersburg, and Vienna, performing in esteemed concert venues such as Carnegie Hall. Now, on Saturday, that talent will land him in Salida, CO. If one has the opportunity, it is not to be missed!
