The Ark Valley Green Homes Tour is set for September 15-17, and promises presentations and free tours of a few of the region’s more prominent sustainable homes.

Five Salida and  Poncha Springs-area homes will be featured until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16. The tour will also include the new Northside Buena Vista homes development, which will be open to preview on Sunday, September 17.

While opening night of the fifth annual tour might be a bit soggy, it surely won’t dampen the enthusiasm of tour-goers, who will be able to get a close-up look at green energy components, including heat pumps, battery storage, solar energy systems, in-home EV charging stations and much more.

The tour begins at 6:30 p.m. at A Church in Salida with a presentation this evening by Rocky Mountain PBS series host Paul Kriescher, somewhat futuristically titled “Mindfulness in Homes.” Kriescher hosts the series called “Heart of a Building”. While the tour is free, there is a $5 charge to register for the opening presentation at A Church.

Then, the home tour starts Saturday morning September 16 (better weather is forecast) beginning at the Farmer’s Market in Salida’s Alpine Park at 9:00 a.m.

There, tour participants can stop by the Ark Valley Energy Futures (AVEF) booth to pick up the Salida area home guide and tour guide. The booth is jointly occupied by AVEF and the New Energy Colorado (NECO) organization, which is going to feature a wealth of energy-efficient home improvements.

The booth will move to a position in front of the Sangre de Cristo Electric Association at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, just off U.S. 24 in Buena Vista. There tour-goers can pick up the guide to preview the Buena Vista home tour homes.
