The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) Foundation is currently accepting applications for HRRMC’s 2021 Auxiliary Scholarship and the Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship. The scholarships will go to local graduating high school seniors who live in the HRRMC hospital district, which includes Chaffee County and western Fremont County.

The Auxiliary Scholarship is a renewable four-year scholarship of $1,000 each year. Eligible applicants for both scholarships have been accepted to a college or university, will be attending in the fall of 2021, and plan to major in a healthcare field. Completed application packets for the Auxiliary Scholarship must be emailed or postmarked by April 1, 2021.

The Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship is a one-time gift of $1,250. As with the Auxiliary Scholarship, eligible applicants for both scholarships have been accepted to a college or university, will be attending in the fall of 2021, and plan to major in a healthcare field. ACT and SAT scores are recommended but not required.

Dr. Mehos was born and raised in Salida and practiced family medicine in the area from 1959 to 2003. He served on the HRRMC Board of Directors from 2004 to 2012 and has served on the HRRMC Foundation Board since its creation in 1986. He currently serves the Foundation Board as Vice President. Applications for the Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship must be emailed or postmarked by April 9, 2021.

“HRRMC Foundation coordinates these scholarships to provide opportunities for high school graduates interested in healthcare,” says Foundation Director Lezlie Burkley. “When we support our future generation, they make an impact that can benefit all of us.”

Applicants should be students at Buena Vista, Salida, or Cotopaxi High Schools. Scholarships should be emailed to HRRMC Foundation Director Lezlie Burkley at lezlie.burkley@hrrmc.net or mailed to:
