Ark Valley Pride is coming back to Salida. Slated for Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 2, Ark Valley Pride is bringing a host of fun events and speakers to the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

Peter Mossman has been named grand marshall for the weekend festivities. He will be leading the 3rd annual People Powered Pride Parade and speaking at the Ark Valley Pride Picnic on Saturday, June 1. He will also emcee the screening of Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Friday, the Ark Valley Pride After Party at Benson’s on Saturday evening, and the HotDish: A Drag Brunch on Sunday.

According to its website, “Ark Valley Pride’s mission is to create a community-driven, alternative Pride experience for LGBTQIA+ families and allies throughout the Upper Arkansas River Valley, while generating support and resources for the community.”

Kicking off the weekend, Friday night, May 31, will feature a movie screening of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The movie will be shown at the Salida SteamPlant (220 West Sackett Ave). Tickets are $10 at the door, with doors open at 7 p.m, and the movie at 8 p.m. The film is Rated ‘R’. Any patrons 17 years old or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The Parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, traveling from Alpine Park to Riverside Park. Parade participants are asked to meet at Alpine Park at 10:45 a.m.

Following the parade, the Ark Valley Pride Picnic will be held in Riverside Park from 12 noon to 2 p.m. It will feature a variety of speakers representing community organizations and businesses.

Benson’s Tavern and Beer Garden, located at 128 N. F Street, is hosting the after-party beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. FEMBOT!, “Colorado’s premier classic rock tribute band performing songs by leading women in rock” (Per Ark Valley Pride’s website) will provide live music until 10 p.m.

There is a $5 cover charge at the door to support Ark Valley Equality Network and Ark Valley Pride. This year’s event will also include the first-ever “Ark Valley Equality Network Pride Awards”.

The ceremony will include a Youth Leadership award, Rising Star award, and Youth of the Year award.

Awards will also be given to community members and businesses for the Business/Organization of the Year, Person of the Year, Ally of the Year and the Elevation Award.
