On Saturday morning, the Ark Valley Voice (AVV) NewsMatch Challenge reached $10,000 in 100 percent tax-deductible donations.

AVV is incredibly grateful for this support; all tax-deductible donations are directed to the first quarter wages of our professional journalists who work every day to give truth a voice.

So many kind messages are arriving with those donations:

“You are a treasure to our community and state. Please count on us doing more next year.”

“Thanks for your defense of democracy AVV!”

“Thanks to AVV, we know the difference between truth and disinformation.”

“You’re really a great source to help me keep up with what’s going on in Chaffee County when I’m not there. Thank you, Jan & Crew!”

“Love Ark Valley Voice. Keep up the good work.”

If AVV can reach $15,000 in tax-deductible donations by December 31, 2023, we’ll qualify to receive a $15,000 NewsMatch grant from foundations working with our fiscal sponsor the Institute for Nonprofit News. On top of that, we can qualify to receive another $5,000 grant from the Colorado NewsMatch funded by a partnership of Rose Community Foundation, our fiscal sponsor, and our funding partners (Bohemian Foundation, Gates Family Foundation, and the Democracy Fund).

If everyone reading this chipped in just $25, we’d not only raise our goal to reach our NewsMatch challenge but a lot more, as our readership had grown even more this past year. We know for many this year, that isn’t possible. That’s why all AVV news is freely accessible to all, six days a week, because being an informed citizen shouldn’t depend upon your ability to pay for news.

AVV has been defending American democracy for nearly six years, and we don’t plan to stop now; especially since we are on the cusp of one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history. Every day we meet our mission with award-winning, fact-based, unbiased, and in-depth news coverage.

For those who are able to make a tax-deductible donation to AVV, we need your financial support more than ever, so that we can continue to report in-depth on the issues important to our daily lives. As readers know, AVV doesn’t tell you what to think– we offer you news and information to make you think.

AVV believes democracy is worth defending. Defending it as news journalists in today’s environment requires courage. But we can’t do it without your help. Among the ways for ordinary citizens to support democracy this year, supporting nonprofit journalism is one of your most important steps.
