Dec. 1 is officially NewsGiving Day in Colorado, the kick-off of a month-long project to support home-grown news organizations delivering local community news. Ark Valley Voice has been selected as one of only 25 newsrooms across the state of Colorado to participate in a critical NewsMatch campaign to help fund the delivery of local, fact-based journalism.
Colorado’s local newsrooms are busier than ever in 2020, demonstrating our civic value as an essential public service. It’s been a tough year for everyone. For newsrooms, it has meant the disappearance of most retail advertising, as retailers have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
But Ark Valley Voice journalists are your neighbors; providing potentially life-saving information on the COVID-19 public health crisis, Colorado wildfires and the economic fall-out of this global pandemic. We fact-check online misinformation, hold a mirror to our communities and our governments, and hold the powerful to account.
Statewide, our coverage of these critical tasks are called #newsCOneeds. That’s why from Dec. 1 to 31, Colorado Media Project (CMP) is offering dollar-for-dollar matches for contributions to 25 of Colorado’s nonprofit or locally-owned newsrooms — including Ark Valley Voice. CMP will match gifts from individuals of up to $1,000 for a total of up to $5,000 per newsroom.
Only donations to Ark Valley Voice beginning Dec. 1 through Dec. 31 will count toward this prestigious NewsMatch grant — so readers, mark your calendars and visit us to contribute too our mission that truth has a voice on Dec. 1.
