Ark Valley Voice (AVV) invites all our readers to attend our Holiday Open House tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Ark Valley Voice office located downstairs at 101 N. F Street in Salida.

This event is free and open to the public for anyone in Chaffee County who would like to stop by and meet the AVV crew. We will be networking and celebrating another year of distributing homegrown news of the Upper Arkansas Valley, covered locally by Ark Valley Voice reporters.

Beverages from Vino Salida will be provided together with appetizers and finger foods courtesy of Poncha Market. We will have some kid-friendly beverages, and hot apple cider too.

In addition to inviting the public to our newsroom, we hope to share a little about our efforts as Ark Valley Voice has been selected as a participant in the Colorado Media Project’s #givingnewsday event.

We are gratified to be one of 18 Colorado newsrooms selected to participate in the Colorado Media Project’s year-end NewsMatch challenge. To qualify for the $5,000 grant from the Colorado Media Project and the Gates Family Foundation,  Ark Valley Voice must receive at least $5,000 in donations between December 3 through Dec. 31, 2019. To date, AVV is halfway towards the goal.  With your help, this $5,000 match is in sight – but only if we don’t let up on the gas.

For a small, but feisty, local newsroom like us, this is a very big deal! Since our launch in March 2018, most all advertising revenue and donations to Ark Valley Voice go primarily to human capital — for the salaries of the people covering the news and information you need to make informed decisions about your community. We do a lot on a shoestring, and recently were elected proud members of the Colorado Press Association.

We hope that our readers and fellow community members stop by this evening to say hello and pop on down to our open house on between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
