The 29th Annual Salida Art Walk kicks off Thursday, June 23 with an evening at the SteamPlant. Slated for 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the event features an auction of “Mini Masterpieces,” music by David Tipton and Jeff Koch, and the always popular wineglass painting.
The so-called masterpieces are the works of Art Walk participants and measure 4” by 6” or smaller. Bids start at $25 and proceeds will go toward the 30th Art Walk next year. The auction will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The wineglass painting, sponsored by High Country Bank (HCB), requires registration: 719-539-2516.

Through Sunday, the Art Walk will feature more than 40 artists in galleries as well as businesses that have opened their doors to the event. This year’s Walk has 45 venues.
Art Walkers will find a variety of media to buy, as well as art demos, gallery talks, a community art project at Riverside Park, plein air art, author readings, and performances from SAZ Art Theatre. As well, the Paquette Gallery at the SteamPlant is hosting a show featuring Art Walk artists.
The Art Walk is a way to celebrate artists who may not typically display in galleries, and it’s also a way for local businesses to engage in Salida’s art scene. Buyers will find a range of prices, and venues stretching out a bit from F Street – but by no means a long walk. Venue listing maps are available at the Welcome Center tents at Riverside Park and in front of Natural Grocers on F Street.
“It’s amazing to witness the ever-expanding arts landscape in Salida,” said Tara Flanagan, director of the new Community Arts center on E Street across from the library. “We’re kind of crazy right now getting everything ready, but yes, really excited to be a part of this year’s Walk. It’s a chance for people to experience the locally grown art in this city. And Salida just has a lot of talent and soul when it comes to art.”
