Articipate, a local non profit arts organization whose mission is to foster awareness and teach the importance of the arts in building communities, is expanding its programs and made additions to its staff. The organization has hired a new executive director Elliot Jackson, who has an extensive background in the arts, both as performer and program administration and grant-writing.

Elliot has also worked for numerous library systems as a program coordinator for adult and family literacy programs, and as Development Director for KHEN-LP FM in Salida.

Tina Gramann has just joined the team as the new Program Director. Tina is a local artist, arts educator, and founder of Salida Creativity Lab. Trevor “Bones” Davis will remain as Public Relations Director and Articipate’s primary music instructor, leading Wooden Rain, Wooden Rain Drops, developing Scrap-Yard and directing 5 Rok Skools.

Plans for the fall include offering several opportunities for community members to learn from local artists with our new series of classes for adults called Articipate Sundays. The series begins September 30, and will include Communication Through Drawing with Naters Art; Painting Play Night with Lisa DeYoung; The Art of the Spring Roll with Phanny Jones; Baking with Sarah Gartzman; Plays Well with Others, a Theater workshop with Jan Justis; and Silk Screening with Ken Brandon. All of the classes will meet at Salida Community Center except for the silk screening class, which will meet at the Box of Bubbles. There will be collector patches and prizes awarded to community members who attend the most number of classes. Registration begins August 25.

With a goal to improve lives through workshops, performances and educational programs for all ages, Articipate continues to offer quarterly scholarships to anyone who wishes to pursue an artistic discipline including, but not limited to: Dance, Music, Fine Art, Acrobatics and Drama. Scholarships for the fall season have been awarded thanks to the Lunch Time Rotary, Upper Arkansas Service Club as well as 10%er businesses MamaD’s, Las Camelinas, and Moonlight Pizza.
