Atmos Energy crews have completed the initial stage of restoring gas service to Salida and Poncha Springs, according to a statement issued by the utility company today, April 11.

Working through the night, crews were able to safety turn off all gas meters in the affected service area in preparation for restoring service.

Beginning this morning and continuing over the next few days crews will be working around the clock in shifts to safely restore gas service and relight the appliances of affected customers. Priority will be given to institutional customers such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other key facilities.

A majority of crews will be working in the late afternoon and evening hours in an attempt to meet residents returning home from work.

As technicians will be working through the night, Atmos Energy has asked that customers leave lights on to signify that they are home and available for a technician to restore service. Once the work has been done, the lights will be turned off.

According to a notification from the Salida School District, natural gas service has been restored, and all Salida schools will return to a normal schedule tomorrow, Thursday, April 12.
