Arkansas Valley Music and Dance (AVMAD) is hosting a contra dance from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 7 at the Congregational United Church of Christ (217 Crossman Avenue) in Buena Vista (just behind the Post Office).

Donations and tips for the live band are appreciated and encouraged.

Each dance will be taught before it is performed to live music. The community dance offers an opportunity to meet new friends and connect with neighbors while enjoying live traditional old-time music and contra dancing. Whether single or a pair, attendees will get the chance to get to know others in their community while having fun.

Contra dancing is similar to square dancing and is done by people of all ages. A form of American folk dancing, it is traditionally done to live music. Callers will call out moves to help guide the dance, which makes it friendly to beginners.

More information about Arkansas Valley Music and Dance, including a calendar of events, is available on their website.

The event is sponsored by AVMAD and the Country Dance and Song Society.
