In an overwhelming week of a brand new year, with the shocking news of the domestic terrorism attack on the United States Capitol,  Ark Valley Voice just did not get around to announcing some good news. Our $5,000 NewsMatch campaign has been successful.

After counting up the PayPal donations and all the checks that arrived in the mail, we can report that donations from our wonderful readers have totaled $5,373  — which will be matched by a $5,000 grant, approved by the Colorado Media Collaborative of which we are a member, and granted by the Rose Community Foundation.

We are overwhelmed and grateful that you view what we do as important to this valley, and  beyond this state, to more than 30 countries around the world.

This year as never before, the delivery of fact-based, unbiased news — considered so important by our founders that freedom of the press was enshrined in the United States Constitution — is more important than ever.

The fact that we continue to make this free to readers demonstrates another critical aspect; that fact-based journalism should be available to all, not just those who can afford a subscription, or a cable bill.

That belief is also why this NewsMatch challenge is so important, and why your donations are so critical; every penny goes to the wages of our journalists. These are the people who faithfully cover community news and bring you developments outside our valley that can have an impact on your lives.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for some important announcements related to our delivery of the news. In the meantime, you can come to www.arkvalleyvoice.com throughout the day, every day, as we load news stories in real time.

We will do everything we can to live up to your trust in us, to ensure that “Truth has a Voice”.
