Ark Valley Voice (AVV) is inviting readers both near and far to attend our Holiday Sock Hop fundraising event from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight,  Thursday, December 19 at Soulcraft Brewing, 248 W. Rainbow Blvd in Salida.

The event serves as an evening of importance for Ark Valley Voice, as we will be collecting socks for the Winter Shelter in Salida, fundraising to reach our $5,000 #NewsMatch with the Colorado Media Project and celebrating another year as a trusted news source in Chaffee County.

To enter the sock hop party, AVV is asking that each person bring a pair of socks that will be donated to the Winter Shelter and make a minimum $10 donation to Ark Valley Voice. Your generous donations will provide you with one free drink ticket and entry to the Holiday Sock Hop Party featuring 50s and 60s music from Sunset Productions Entertainment.

Ark Valley Voice has been selected as a participant in the Colorado Media Project’s #newsCOneeds event . We’re gratified to be one of 18 Colorado newsrooms selected to participate in the 2019 Colorado Media Project’s year end NewsMatch challenge. To qualify for the $5,000 grant from the Colorado Media Project and the Gates Family Foundation, Ark Valley Voice must receive at least $5,000 in donations between December 3 through Dec. 31, 2019.

For a small, but feisty, local newsroom like us, this is a very big deal! Since our launch in March 2018, most all advertising revenue and donations to Ark Valley Voice go primarily to human capital — for the salaries of the people covering the news and information you need to make informed decisions about your community. We do a lot on a shoestring, and recently were elected proud members of the Colorado Press Association.

Do stop by the Ark Valley Voice Holiday Sock Hop event at Soulcraft on Thursday, December 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All of those who value our work, please consider supporting us with a donation to help us qualify for the $5,000 NewsMatch grant. As of Dec. 18 we are 71 percent of the way toward that $5,000 goal. More information about donations can be found by visiting our donation page.
