Mail ballots are coming in slowly, all across the state, not just in Chaffee County. But according to the Secretary of State’s office, that isn’t necessarily unusual for an off-year election. According to data from the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, only about 10 percent of ballots mailed out earlier across the state have been returned so far.

With only 10 percent of ballots turned in so far, Eagle County is lagging behind Chaffee, which has seen 14.9 percent of mail ballots mailed or dropped off. But voters lagging on returning their ballots isn’t new. In fact, traditionally, across the state of Colorado, about 40 percent of ballots are actually dropped off on Election Day, which this year is Nov. 2.

Colorado tends to be a high election turn-out state, and Chaffee county is a high turn-out county. It is too late to mail back ballots – they must be dropped off at county ballot boxes at the County Administration offices at 104 Crestone Ave., at the County Annex on Linderman in Buena Vista.

Also in Salida, the Scout Hut at Riverside Park is now open for drop-off and in-person voting. See this earlier Ark Valley Voice story for location and hours of operation: https://arkvalleyvoice.com/chaffee-county-coordinated-election-is-underway/
