Chaffee County has reported that as of the end of the day on Oct. 29, 28 percent of the total registered voters of the county had already returned their ballots. The county got 811 mail ballots returned through the mail on Monday and 11 people have voted in person.
County Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell stressed that although ballots were returned by voters registered to political parties or who remain unaffiliated, it should be understood that there is no such thing as a specific kind of ballot for a specific party. “We do not have ‘Democrat’ ballots or ‘Republican’ ballots. Everybody receives the same ballot, and there will be a lot of voters who cross parties to vote for their choices. We are reporting what parties are turning in their ballot, but it is just tea leaf readings.”
Ballots returned from: Returned through 10/29
Registered Republicans 1,331
Registered Democrats 1203
Minor parties 47
There have been 245 undeliverable ballots. The county reports that there is no longer time for the county to mail out ballots, so those who want to vote need to come in to pick up a ballot or vote in person.
The county will open its Buena Vista Vote Center on Tuesday, Oct 30 at 112 Linderman Ave., at the Motor Vehicle Branch Office. Hours of operation will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m daily.
Both the Salida and BV Vote Centers will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 3. -12
