Bike Your Park Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, offers a chance to explore the Stage and Rail Trail through Hayden Meadows and Arkansas River Ranch recreation sites on a trail that meanders through river meadows and sagebrush uplands along old ranch roads, through a portion of the original coast-to-coast highway and along the historic stage road from Salida to Leadville.
The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association are presenting this 5-mile, easy-to-moderate, family friendly bicycle outing. The two-hour bike ride from 10 a.m. to noon will be led by GARNA’s Friends of Fourmile chapter representative, Alan Robinson, and Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area staff.
Recreation area staff also will provide information on a recent management agreement between Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the city of Aurora, which owns the old Hayden Ranch, allowing AHRA to manage recreation on this land. Robinson will provide information and history about the old stage route and status of the Stage and Rail Trail project.
The event is free, but registration is required. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org stating how many people will be in your party and if bike rental or shuttle assistance is needed. For more information, call GARNA at 719-539-5106 or visit the GARNA website.
