News Update: AFter being down for hours, the social media platforms of Facebook came back up overnight on Monday into Tuesday morning. The company noted that internal networking issues kept it form diagnosing and resolving problems earlier.

A message received around 10:00 a.m. MST this morning indicates that a large portion of the Facebook social media network is down. User reports show a significant, and undetermined disruption across several countries.

The disruption appears to affect every Facebook social media platform: Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Messenger on Downdetector.

MSN Insider reports that the issues began around 11:45 a.m. EST on Monday, according to user reports on Downdetector. They appeared to affect users in many countries around the world.

In a tweet addressing the outage, Facebook said, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Instagram also addressed the outage on Twitter, saying, “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown.”

No other information is available as to what has caused the outage or how long it may take to resolve it.
