Wrap yourself in lights and get ready for the Parade of Lights, set for Dec. 1 on Buena Vista’s Main street. This free, community holiday tradition is set to begin around 5:00 p.m. On S. Main Street. It will continue on to E. Main Street, with participants dispersing either left or right on Railroad Street to conclude the parade.

“Everyone is welcome to join,” said Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center Executive Assistant April Kali. “We’ll welcome family floats, vehicles, people walking, horses and dogs – just decorate with lights and join in the fun.”

The parade is part of what Buena Vista is calling its Christmas Opening Event, kicking off the weeks leading up to Christmas. Line-up will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the South Main Street area of town. Everyone wishing to participate in the parade will be required to sign a release of liability prior to participating. The releases will be available from event organizers during the parade line-up.

Whether you’re attending the parade as a participant or as a parade-watcher, the Chamber of Commerce has a few reminders. First, because the parade takes place at dusk, organizers ask that nothing be thrown. This avoids the possibility of people being hit, as well as children running out into the street in front of light-decked trucks.

Parade organizers also ask that trucks and cars in the parade avoid gunning motors or driving in a reckless manner. “This would result in immediate dismissal from the parade,” said Kali.
