The Buena Vista Public Library and Kate Bruner, an early literacy librarian from Colorado State Library are holding a series of three workshops that promote early learning for children up to age 5. The series is designed for the network of friends, family, neighbors, and parents who help support the care of young children.

Beginning March 2, the weekly Zoom workshops are live and interactive, providing opportunities for participants to:

  • Connect with each other;
  • Develop a deeper understanding of how the things they are already doing actually do contribute to children’s development;
  • Reflect on the value of their existing interactions, and engage with new tools and skills that support school readiness, such as early literacy and STEM programming for young children.

In addition to the workshops, participants will receive a weekly take-home kit that includes popular activities for caregivers so they can immediately practice what they have learned with the children in their care.

The series is free of charge for a limited number of caregivers, and those who registered are asked to commit to attending all three sessions, slated for 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Series Topics:

  • March 2: Introduction to early childhood development, importance and value of caregiver interaction, early literacy learning
  • March 9: Fine and gross motor skill development, how physical development supports school readiness
  • March 16: Early STEM learning, basic appreciative inquiry, how STEM supports school readiness
