Buena Vista School District hosted an open house for the public on Saturday, January 11, to share the completion of phase one of the Buena Vista Schools construction project. Construction began in December 2018, with completion of the final phase scheduled for Aug. 2020.
The open house was an opportunity for the public to see the progress that construction has made with the completion of phase one. Buena Vista Schools Superintendent Lisa Yates greeted the public as they walked into the new building, standing at the base of what has been deemed by the work crews as “the grand staircase.”
The “grand staircase” is located in what is also referred to as the flex-common area or “commons,” which features individual working spaces and collaborative spaces that appear much like the co-working spaces found on a college or university campus.
Curiosity ran rapid as community members were escorted around the new building by Buena Vista High School students, who recently became acquainted with the new building when they returned for their spring semester January 9.
Self-guided tours were also welcomed as community members moved throughout the building, asking questions and exclaiming at the light spaces and sweeping views out of amble windows.
The public was invited to peek into classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, common spaces, and of course, the library, with giant glass windows that feature the Collegiate Peak range.
