The Town of Buena Vista’s trustees plan a 20-minute discussion about short-term rentals  during their regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Municipalities around the country have tightened their grip on short-term rentals in efforts to keep them from cutting into long-term rental stock. In addition, neighbors in some places have stacked up complaints about noise and not knowing who is going to be next door for the weekend.

As the availability of affordable long-term rentals continues to be one of Chaffee County’s biggest challenges, Buena Vista has been eyeing a discussion on the various impacts of short-term rentals, and what changes need to be made, if any. Tuesday’s discussion will likely be a preliminary talk with possible dialogue continuing in 2021.

In other action, the Board plans to:

  • Consider a resolution to reappoint Kelly Collins and Pat McCarthy and appoint Jim Hight as regular voting members of the Town’s Trails Advisory Board, and Colleen Fitzgerald and Gina Lucrezi as an alternate;
  • Consider an ordinance to set procedures for assessing costs of Block 21 Alley improvements;
  • Hear an end-of-year update from Dan Swallow, Director of Development Services, on building activity in Chaffee County.

The online meeting is at 7:00 p.m. To participate in public comment and/or public hearings, participants must connect to the video conference: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88075048459 Password: 971317
