Buena Vista Police Chief Jimmy Tidwell officially entered retirement on July 23 after 34 years of serving the department. Upon declaration of the town’s board of trustees, Saturday, July 25 was designated as ‘Jimmy Tidwell Day’ throughout the town. The focal point; a late afternoon reception at the Community Center.
Tidwell was joined by people of the community of all ages — his family, many friends, and members of law enforcement and public agencies. He offered his sincere thanks to the community, and several well-wishers took the microphone — often in tears — to thank the chief, who is known for his ability to soften a tense situation with compassion and common sense.
Tidwell will continue to live in Buena Vista with his wife, Laura. Sgt. Dean Morgan, a 10-year veteran of the department, has been promoted to replace Tidwell as Chief of Police.
