At the end of a busy summer season, the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce finally held the official ribbon-cutting for one of its newest members, The Cellar on Railroad.

“I’m glad we’re getting to do it,” says Candace Bryans, owner of The Cellar, of the ribbon-cutting. “We joined the Chamber earlier but it was when we were in the middle of lockdown and then summer hit. I’m really excited to actually get to do it now and feel like people can be here for it and it’s not as intense as it was when we first opened.”

The Cellar on Railroad, a wine and tapas bar at 301 East Main Street, opened just before Christmas in 2020 and joined the Chamber of Commerce earlier this year. Melissa Traynham, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, was glad to finally hold the ceremony in person.

“They became members shortly after they opened,” she says. “We’re just so excited to be able to do outdoor events safely, like ribbon-cuttings. That’s something that’s been missing. But we really support this business.”

Traynham also said there’s been an increase in membership since the start of the pandemic. “[It] is exciting, and hopefully it speaks to us being a resource during the pandemic for our small businesses.”

“It’s been really busy,” says Bryans. “We thought we would get open at Christmastime and have Christmas and the New Year to kind of get ourselves together before we had a full-on busy summer, and it was pretty much busy from the moment we opened.”
