Mark your calendars; the Christmas Opening Celebration, hosted by the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce, is all set for Saturday, December 4, 2021, and will be based at the Heritage Museum on East Main Street. The View Cafe at the Best Western will host an Open House on Friday, December 3, for folks to start their Christmas shopping.

“This weekend is full of holiday cheer in our community for our locals, our businesses, and our visitors. Oftentimes throughout the event, it feels like the perfect backdrop for a Hallmark movie,” said Executive Director of Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce Melissa Traynham. “We hope that you and your families will join us as we continue this time-honored tradition in Buena Vista.”

Visitors can purchase punch cards for the Chocolate Walk, a long-time Buena Vista tradition that brings participants to businesses; take photos with Santa (reservations required), visit the local Craft Fair; join the Chili Cook-Off; listen to live music from Dale Kettering; and check out Santa’s Favorite Workshop, all at the Heritage Museum. Additionally, Shavano Pharmacy will be offering vaccines and booster shots for those interested.

Elsewhere in town, visitors can find a free showing of “The Star,” sponsored by First Colorado Land, at the Community Center (reservations required); take the Polar Plunge at the River Park outside Surf Hotel; and check out the Local Authors’ Fair at the Buena Vista Public Library. The Parade of Lights will start at 5:15 p.m. in South Main and end at the Splash Park on Railroad and East Main for the Community Tree Lighting.

Masks will be required for all indoor activities at the Heritage Museum and Community Center to ensure staff, volunteer, and community safety and health. Some events will also require reservations.

“We want to bring each of you an event where you can celebrate the season, but also keep each other safe during this time where the COVID-19 cases are surging. We truly appreciate everyone’s understanding around this request. It is important to us to keep our traditions thriving, while also keeping everyone safe and healthy,” continues Traynham.
