There’s still time to plan an early dinner tonight before heading out to watch the eager contestants at the Surf Hotel vie for the 2023 BV Middle School Civics Bee. The excitement kicks off at 6:00 p.m. tonight, April 18 in the Ivy Ballroom, 1012 Front Loop in Buena Vista and is hosted locally by the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce.

The top 20 applicants in the First Buena Vista/National Civics Bee (hopefully to become an annual event) will be on hand to match wits in an evening of competition that features two rounds of rapid-fire civics questions. Following that, there’s a final showdown where the top three scorers will answer questions from a panel of judges about their submitted essays.

As previously reported by Ark Valley Voice, tonight’s event will choose the three local finalists who will go on to state competition in Denver in-mid-May.

Every one of the contestants listed below is already a winner in the eyes of their families as well as the community. Valuable lessons in the democratic process have already been learned and it would not be surprising to see any of these young people addressing the BV Trustees in the near future.

You’re invited to attend this FREE public event and help cheer on our leaders of tomorrow:
