The Buena Vista Board of Trustees will have their regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, with a preceding work session at 5:30 p.m. to discuss water policies. No decisions will be made during the work session.

In addition to staff reports and public comments, the board will hear an update on Area Median Income (AMI) and housing affordability from Colorado Housing Authority Director Becky Gray. Gray will review local AMI numbers and how they represent the local workforce and what housing affordability looks like for each group.

The board will also hold public hearings on two potential changes to the town’s Unified Development Code (UDC) and Municipal Code that were discussed at the January 25 meeting. The first proposed change would amend certain sections of Title 16 of the Municipal Code to allow small multifamily dwellings (four units or less) to be developed without the need of a Minor Site Plan if there is already infrastructure in place to support it. The second would amend certain sections of Titles 7, 8, and 16 of the UDC to create a new Small Lot Single-Family Residential District (R-1.5) Zone District. At the January 25 meeting, the board moved to discuss them further at the February 8 meeting.

Previously, the board also discussed two other proposed changes, one to create Single-Room Occupancy use and another to allow for multi-family developments in the Highway Commercial zone district. The board will hear updated information on those two proposals, which will be discussed further at the next regular meeting on February 25.

The board will also discuss canceling the April 5, 2022, election as there were not more candidates than offices to be filled at the election. Libby Fay (Mayor), Gina Lucrezi (Trustee, Mark Jenkins (Trustee), and Cindie Swisher (Trustee) would all serve four-year terms, and Sue Cobb (Trustee) would serve a two-year term, filling a vacancy created in 2021.

The board’s agenda and meeting packet can be found on the town’s website and agenda center. Meetings are held at 715  East Main Street in Buena Vista, and the public and town staff are encouraged to attend the meeting virtually at this time. Information about Zoom access can be found on the agenda. Public comment can still be registered virtually.
