Chaffee County Public health (CCPH) has announced its sponsorship of a special training session called “Trauma-Informed Strategies, Moving from Understanding to Application”, set for May 18.

This interactive workshop for professionals will provide tools for understanding behaviors children and adults may exhibit secondary to trauma, the role of caregivers, and trauma-informed strategies for those who work with people dealing with trauma. The session will be conducted by Kathy Orr, RN, BSN, and Executive Director of Peaceful Households.

Orr has been a registered nurse for more than thirty years, and in that time her experience includes critical care, oncology, school nursing, diabetic education, and public health.  Since 2008 she has focused on injury and violence prevention among children.  In 2014 she founded Peaceful Households, which has become a leader in providing education related to Adverse Childhood Experiences, the effects of trauma along with trauma-informed practices.  She has extensive experience working with professionals across multi-disciplinary organizations.
