While sunshine has returned to the lower elevations of the Arkansas River Valley after a fast front moved through overnight, there are still adverse weather conditions at high elevations that are iffy at best.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced the following state road closures:
- US-50 (Monarch Pass) is closed in both directions, heading west or heading east, from mile point 190 to 210, due to adverse weather conditions and safety concerns.
- US-285 is closed in both directions in Park County from mile point 162 to 183 (Antero Junction to Fairplay), due to adverse weather conditions and safety concerns.
Those travelers setting out in either direction hoping to drive these roads should check the CDOT COtrip website for the most recent information: https://www.cotrip.org/home#notifications
Travelers should also be aware that CDOT has again begun construction work on U.S. 50 on Monday, March 6 and that construction work is expected to continue through July, 2023.
Delays and closures on U.S. 50 include: alternating Traffic during daytime hours 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday on U.S. 50 (mile points 124 to 127) between Montrose and Gunnison for major road construction. Full overnight closures are from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. from Monday to Thursday nights. The roadway is open to traffic on weekends beginning Fridays at 7:30 p.m. (that is weather-permitting). Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and detour via I-70 or US 160. More information is available at us50info.com.
