The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has recognized the Collegiate Peak Byway as an Electrified Byway. It is considered to be electrified based on the direct current, fast charging locations in Buena Vista, and Salida for electric-powered cars.

That is good news for tourists setting out to explore this scenic mountain valley. These two locations effectively cover the entirety of the Byway, so a traveler is never more than 50 miles from a fast-charging station.

CDOT explained that the presence of destination-based Level Two charging in both areas is encouraging and the addition of more Level Two chargers in other communities along U.S. 285, U.S. 24, U.S. 50 and SH291 will further strengthen the network. A Level Two charging unit is a specific charging unit that is generally mounted on a wall. The units possess a nominal 240 charging volts and 40 Amp circuit.
