The Central Colorado Humanists (CCH) has a unique, interactive program lined up for their Sunday Science meeting on May 7. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the program will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. Offered the first Sunday of each month, Science Sunday programs are held at the Salida Scout Hut, 210 East Sackett Avenue, next to Riverside Park.

Titled “Communication When We Disagree”, organizers ask us to consider: Do we really know how to talk to someone who disagrees with us? Do we even try or simply avoid them altogether? Or do we just continue to shout out our “facts”? During this Sunday Science session, attendees will listen to two “TED Talk” presentations on how we listen and how to talk with those who have a different view.

After hearing the TED presentations, small groups will be formed to hold a structured practice session using techniques learned from the TED talks. Following the breakouts, everyone will regroup to share new ways of handling tough topics at family gatherings, with friends at the coffee shop, or with co-workers.

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Masks are welcome but not required.  You’re asked to choose whatever is best for your personal health.

Central Colorado Humanists is an organization of people from Chaffee County and the surrounding area who believe in the dignity of human beings and their corresponding responsibility to live in accordance with the goals of Humanism.
