Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell reports that 813 mail ballots were returned yesterday and nine people voted in person. This brings the total votes already received in Chaffee County to 9,906;  a 65 percent return of the county’s 15,171 registered, active voters.

It is now considered too late to mail ballots. The county has set up a Drive-through Vote Center outside Chaffee County offices at 104 Crestone Ave, Salida. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

November 3 is the last day to vote and ballots must be turned in by 7:00 p.m. at any of the county voting locations. The county is setting up even more voting locations for the day of and the day-before the election:

  • Chaffee County Fairgrounds – open 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov 2 and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 3, Election Day.
  • Buena Vista Community Center – open 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov 2 and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 3, Election Day

The county has 24/7 vote drop boxes outside its offices, and mail ballots can also be dropped off at the Buena Vista Town Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
