The newly-constituted Chaffee Common Ground Citizens Advisory Committee will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Board of County Commissioners Meeting Room at 104 Crestone Ave., in Salida. The meeting purpose has some urgency: to define the work product which should result from the committee efforts, including a best practice grant ranking approach such as the one established for the Marijuana Excise Tax Advisory Board.

Chaffee Common Ground has come about as a result of the passage of Ballot Issue 1A by Chaffee residents in the November 2018 election. Residents narrowly supported the measure, approving a tax to fund the preservation of working lands, forest health and wildfire mitigation and balance the impact of the growing impacts of recreation on county land. The tax approved in that initiative went into effect Jan. 1, 2019, and is accumulating, adding some urgency to the need to establish parameters for considering grant requests.

Also on the agenda, the establishment of sub-committee roles and a review of projects already in the pipeline, including the Centerville Ranch Conservation Easement Project and the County Conservation Trust Fund.
