In an announcement from the Chaffee County Fairgrounds on Thursday, March 12, the Chaffee County Commissioners have made the decision to cancel all events at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds until further notice.

“In proactive response to the unpredictable circumstances evolving from spread of COVID-19, Chaffee County Fairgrounds will be closed until further notice to all meetings and events,” said the Chaffee County Fairgrounds announcement.

“We are reaching out personally to our special event and weekly user groups, and are committed to rescheduling once more clarity is available regarding the spread of the virus. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.”

Cancellations include two popular, public events, the Chaffee Conty Embracing Aging Conference that had been set for May 16, and the Chaffee Home and Garden Show.

The home show, sponsored by the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club, was originally scheduled for April 4th and 5th will no longer be held in 2020. Proceeds form the show benefit the Rotary’s scholarship funds.

The Chaffee County Fairgrounds said, “This would have been the eighth sold out Show. We are all so very sorry that this is the reality of the time. This show represents our major fundraising effort for the year.”

In a response directed towards vendors of the show,the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club is offer three options for those who were planning to participate in the show for consideration:

  1. Consider donating all or part of your 2020 Show payments to
    the Sunrise Rotary Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3), tax deductible entity.
    These monies will be used for local scholarships, and in
    support of other 501(c)(3) community organizations.
  2. Roll over your 2020 show contract and payments to the
    2021 Show; this will also provide price protection should there be any
    increase is fees for 2021. The 2021 Show will be held on April 10-11, 2021
  3. A full refund is available for all monies paid.
