It’s spring clean-up time. For county residents that means Saturday, May 18, has been designated as Free Dump Day at the Chaffee County Landfill for county residents. Proof of residential residency will be required and the Free Dump Day is intended for residential homes.

That day the Chaffee County Landfill off U.S. 285 south of Centerville will accept trash including yard waste, mattresses, metal and appliances except for refrigerators and freezers (Per Colorado state law, refrigerators and freezers that contain freon are not accepted at landfills). The landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day. Each load is subject to inspection of contents.

Some items will not be accepted as “free” dump materials and will be charged normal disposal fees:

Tires – $5 each for vehicles

Truck tires – $20

Electronic waste — $0.60 per pound

TVs & monitors less than 30” – $20

TVs & monitors more than 30” – $40

Vehicle batteries– $3 vehicle

Solar and heavy equipment – $5

Only residentail home trash will receive the free disposal rates that day. Commercial haulers, contractors and other businesses will be charged the standard dumping fees.

The number of loads will not be limited, but the Chaffee County Landfill asks that no semi-style trailers be used. No loads will be accepted before 8 a.m. and no loads accepted after 3 p.m.
