This is not a year for large, in-person events. While some folks might be getting tired of living online as the country continues to deal with the surging coronavirus pandemic, virtual events are the closest thing we have to community. So the Chaffee County Democrats got creative and dreamed up an event to help local businesses.

The Chaffee Democrats Virtual Block Party Fundraiser has so far raised just under $1,000 (currently at $964) in gift cards purchased from local businesses and donated to be auctioned off during the Chaffee Democrats Virtual Block Party.

“We think the best thing is the win-win for businesses,” said Democrat JoAnne Allen.

The second half of the Chaffee County Democrats event, the social media block party scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. August 1, has been dubbed “a Win-Win fundraiser”, with proceeds going to benefit Democratic candidates.

The Block Party will be live-streamed on the Chaffee County Democrats Facebook page. Local bands are lined up as well as candidates. The virtual event will include messages from elected officials. Salida Mayor P.T. Wood will host the party as master of ceremonies.

Special guests include Mother Jones and the Chaffee County Young Democrats. Donations of any amount can be made by going to chaffeecountydemocrats.org. All proceeds will benefit Democratic candidates. View the event @https://www.facebook.com/ChaffeeDemocrats/
