As reported last week by Ark Valley Voice, the dates for the official, biennial reorganization meetings for the political parties are being organized. County parties for Democrats and Republicans hold officer elections in the first couple weeks of February. State Parties meet in March and April.

In February of each odd-numbered year, the Chaffee County Democratic Party undergoes a reorganization, in which all elected positions in the County Party (with the exception of Precinct Organizers, who were elected at 2022 Caucus and serve until 2024 Caucus) are up for election/re-election to a two-year term.

The Chaffee County Democratic Party (CCDP) has set its reorganization meeting for Monday, February 13, at the Salida Scout Hut located at 210 East Sackett Ave, Salida. Sign-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting gavels in at 6:00 p.m.

Organizers strongly ask that Democrats register as soon as possible by contacting info@chaffeecountydemocrats.org

Those who cannot attend are encouraged to send a proxy, so a quorum can be established. Per CCDP Rules, “Proxies must be assigned to a credentialed member of the County Central Committee.”

The elected roles for Chaffee Democrats include: the five County officers (Chair, Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer), and the officers of each House District, Senate District, Congressional District, and Judicial District. Bonus members are elected to House and Senate Districts, Congressional Districts, as well as the State Executive committees.

In single-county districts Precinct Organizers are members of the central and vacancy committees for the districts in which they live.  Any Democrat who lives in the district may run to be a bonus member.

To vote, you must either be present or send a Proxy. But you do not need to be present to run for an office, committee, or as a bonus member, though it is encouraged.
