Chaffee County Public Health Hires New Home Share Coordinator

This week Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) announced that it has hired Monica Ranes as the new coordinator for the Chaffee County Home Share Program.

In her role, Ranes will oversee the grant-funded Home Share program which is aimed at helping older adults age in place while simultaneously creating more affordable housing opportunities for the community. Ranes joins the existing Chaffee County Aging Well team which also includes Molly Bischoff and Aubrey Tamietti, who oversee Chaffee County Aging Well and Ark Valley Helping Hands programs respectively.

“As the Chaffee County Home Share program expands its reach and seeks more participants, I am hopeful that my background in marketing and project management will be an asset to this very unique and beneficial program,” said Ranes.

“One of my first steps as coordinator is to re-launch the program with the tagline “Living Well, Together” which we feel sums up this mutually beneficial program,” she added. “[It] can help both our aging community give back, as well as offer affordable housing seekers a way to find housing that also contributes to the community.”

Home Share is designed for adults over the age of fifty-five who have extra space on their property and can offer living accommodations to those seeking reduced rent in exchange for providing agreed-upon tasks. Tasks generally include things like computer help, meal preparation, rides to appointments, light housekeeping, snow removal, yard work, pet care or even simply a “just in case” presence.

No two home-sharing arrangements are alike.  Each “match” is tailored to the unique needs and abilities of the people involved.

While many people can find someone on their own, Chaffee County Home Share has developed a comprehensive and client-driven screening and matching process to make the best in-home matches possible. Not only is the screening process focused on safety and security, but the priority is to create a “good match” that supports a mutually agreeable and sociable living arrangement. It is up to people in the program to decide who they want to live with, and the Home Share staff monitor and support the arrangement every step of the way.
