The Chaffee County Landfill be closed as of 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, due to high winds.

Please contact the landfill at 719-539-3738 for current status prior to visiting the landfill, as the variable wind conditions may affect status throughout the day.

Chaffee County Landfill Wind Closure Policy

In accordance with Colorado regulations, the Chaffee County Landfill will cease accepting refuse during the following conditions:

  • When sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (measured at 5 to 10-minute intervals) are measured for a 30-minute duration. The Landfill will open when winds are measured at less than 35 miles per hour for 15 minutes.
  • When wind gusts equal or exceed 55 miles per hour. Customers will be detained at the gate until the gust subsides.
  • As otherwise deemed necessary by Chaffee County to prevent nuisance conditions as required by regulations.
