A 13-year-old girl reported as missing from her home in Moffat, CO. on Feb. 16 was located on Feb. 17 in Chaffee County, after being spotted at the Poncha Springs Visitor Center. Her disappearance had become a focus of law enforcement throughout Colorado.

A passerby at the Poncha Springs Visitors Center noticed her as fitting the description of the missing female from Moffat, and notified the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office. They responded to the location, verifying that she was in fact the missing juvenile.

An investigation ensued as to the reason for the juvenile’s disappearance and presence in Chaffee County, and the result of this culminated in the arrest of a local adult.

Buena Vista resident, 34-year-old male Jason Andrew Harter, was arrested on February 21, 2020 and charged with Second Degree Kidnapping, a Class 2 Felony, Sex Assault, a Class 3 Felony, Enticement of a Child, a Class 4 Felony, and Child Abuse, a Class 2 Misdemeanor.

Harter was transported to the Chaffee County Detention Facility where he remains without bond.
