The Covid-19 pandemic has brought another hard pill to swallow; the delay of the sports season for at least eight boys and girls sports until FEb. 2021.

On December 7, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) made an official announcement on season delays. Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases throughout the state, CHSAA officials said they  felt they did not have enough information about what January will look like to make a determination regarding indoor high school athletics in season B.

Season B includes Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Skiing, Boys and Girls Wrestling, Girls Swim and Dive, Ice Hockey and Spirit. If the district decides to go ahead with the sports, practice would stat Jan. 25, with the season running from Feb. 1 to March 20.

Athletic Director Jim Coscarella says he plans to advocate that the high school Season B sports programs have the ability to practice before the official start of the season. These practices would be strictly voluntary and would not be held against the athlete if they cannot or choose not to participate.

The Athletic Dept. has confirmed that practice for all sports will only be mandatory during the official season. Currently, there is no updated information on middle school sports and that information is forthcoming.

CHSAA noted in partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health, that their number one priority for the new year is to get back to and support in-person instruction. Coscarella said, “our flexibility in this situation gives us the hope for future activities and continued learning.”
