From 1972 to 1984 nearly 40 counties across the United States flipped between parties, three Presidential Elections in a row. But from 2008 to 2020, only four counties did.

In 2020, Chaffee County’s young registered voters voted at a higher rate than the state of Colorado’s average:

In the 2020 Presidential Primary:

    • 43 percent of 17-year-olds voted
    • 46 percent of 18-year-olds voted;
    • 30 percent of 19-year-olds voted
    • 30 percent of 20-24-year-olds voted.

In the 2020 Primary Election vote in Chaffee County: 21 percent of 17-year-olds voted; 34 percent of 18-year-olds voted; 29 percent of 19-year-olds voted; and 24 percent of 20-24-year-olds voted.

In the 2020 General Election the percentage of Chaffee County young voters voting was even higher:

    • 71 percent of 18-year-olds voted;
    • 70 percent of 19-year-olds voted
    • 60 Percent of 20-24-year-olds voted.

The number of registered voters in Chaffee County on General Election Day has risen steadily:

  • In 2010 were 10,346 active and 2,237 inactive for a total of 12, 583. Cast votes were 8,618.
  • On General Election Day in 2012 there were 11,151 active voters and 2473 inactive voters for a total of 13,624 registered voters. Votes cast were 10,569.
  • On General Election Day in 2014 there were 11,805 active voters and 1,737 inactive voters for a total of 13,542 registered voters. Votes cast were 9,085.
  • On General Election Day in 2016 there were 13,057 active voters and 1,681 inactive voters for a total of 14,738 registered voters. Votes cast were 11,603.
  • On General Election Day in 2018 there were 13,548 active voters and 2,052 inactive voters for a total of 15,600 registered voters. Votes cast were 11,151.
  • On General Election Day in 2020 there were 15,400 active registered voters and 1,369 inactive voters for a total of 16,769. Votes cast were 13,862.
