The Honnen Ice Arena, a Colorado College institution and former part-time home of the CC Tigers of Division 1 NCAA hockey is headed to a new chapter in Salida. The Chaffee County Amateur Hockey Association (CCAHA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has agreed to purchase the main components of the decommissioned rink as the CC Tigers prepare to move to their new home at Robson Arena.

Enroute to Salida are boards, glass, benches, bleachers, scoreboard, equipment, and most importantly the refrigeration system for the ice. This rink formerly hosted Olympic medalists Peggy Fleming and Adam Rippon, as well as Stanley Cup champions Jaden Schwartz and Curtis McElhinney.

According to the CCAHA, this is a monumental step in CCAHA’s mission to bring an ice rink to Salida. It could not have been possible without the support of Colorado College, the City of Salida, Chaffee County, the Chaffee County Community Foundation, and our community and corporate sponsors including the private foundation funding this transaction.

Organizers are seeking additional funding and partnerships to build a structure to house the rink and provide shade from the sun.

They are asking for continued support from the community to make the dream of ice skating in Salida a reality.
