At noon on May 15, Colorado Mountain College (CMC) will hold a virtual ceremony for this year’s graduating classes across its mountain community campuses.

CMC is in the process of creating a website for this online graduation. Once the website is live, it will be open to the public and on view all summer. This month, students will receive their mortarboard, tassel, a letter from the president, and alumni swag, among other surprises in the mail, in preparation for their commencement.

“We have all found ourselves persevering through this unforgettable year,” said president and CEO of the college Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser, “Here at CMC, we have done all we can to ensure our students finish this academic year strong.”

Students can watch the event for their specific campus from home, including hearing their keynote and student speaker. Graduating student names, degrees, and credentials will be read by an emcee from the campus. An elected member of the CMC Board of Trustees will confer diplomas and certificates and the student speaker will return to the screen to lead their classmates in turning of the tassels.

Students are encouraged to organize watch parties of friends and family members and to post the photos with #cmcgrad2020 or to https://colomtn.me/gradphotos.

This year marks the 100 anniversary of women’s right to vote, making this year’s commencement even more special. The college has lined up an accomplished slate of Colorado women to speak, one per campus. The speakers are each trailblazers in their respective fields.

History Colorado and the governor’s Women’s Vote Centennial Commission will incorporate portions of the CMC commencement speech into a video project initiative to be called “Bold Women. Change History.”

“So many people – including these amazing guest commencement speakers – have worked hard so that we can celebrate our students’ achievements in a special and memorable way,” said Besnette Hauser, “We all wish the CMC class of 2020 the warmest congratulations and the very best in their future endeavors.”
