A small note regarding water, on the agenda of the Chaffee Board of County Commissioners’ regular meeting, beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Buena Vista School District meeting room, may have major significance to Chaffee County. Commissioners will consider whether to file a “Monitoring Notice of Opposition in 18CW 3076” regarding the Upper Arkansas Water Conservation District’s application to augment structures in Fremont, Custer and El Paso Counties, using Chaffee County reservoirs. Their application includes a request to use county reservoirs both as storage facilities, as well as sources of augmentation.

A second potential Notice of Opposition filing to be considered by commissioners is for the Gold Basin Water Court application. It is seeking a permanent augmentation plan, diverting 15 c.f.s (cubic feet per second) from Cache Creek for placer mining.

County attorney Jenny Davis will walk commissioners through aspects of both potential objection filings.

For the first time in several weeks, commissioners regular meeting will include no public hearings. Instead, they will finalize two resolutions; one approving the special events permit for the Live Nation/Seven Peaks Country Festival in Buena Vista, and another denying a request by Heart of the Rockies Camping for a zoning map amendment.
