Construction work on the east side of Cottonwood Pass has closed Denny Creek, which now cannot be accessed from the east side of the pass. However, construction work will be suspended for the July Fourth holiday through 6 a.m. July 5.
The reconstruction of the pass is proceeding on pace. Pulverization work is complete on the lower three and one-half miles of the road base and work has begun on the top of the pass, moving downward. The Colorado trail and the Continental Divide trail can be traveled, but there is no access from CR 306 due to construction. The roadway from Avalanche Trailhead parking area to the summit is also closed.
Paving on the pass is expected to begin on July 11, beginning at the bottom working upward. The embankment work, which began June 27, has a one-lane closure configuration with short traffic delays. Near the bottom of the pass on the Buena Vista side, the delays will be no more than 20 minutes in length and traffic control signs will be in use.
