The Salida City Council will hold its next work session at 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 6 in City Council Chambers at the Touber Building.
First on the agenda will be an update from the Chaffee County Housing Authority (CHA).

Next, Assistant City Finance Director Kristen Hussey will provide an overview of Colorado’s Paid Family Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Act and a comparison to the City of Salida’s current short-term disability benefit plan for its employees.
FAMLI was created with the voter-approved Proposition 118 and as a Colorado municipality, the city is automatically opted-into the program unless the council formally votes to opt-out.
After an initial favorable review of FAMLI by the Finance Committee, the staff’s report will show the nuances of FAMLI vs. the existing benefit plan to help the council make an informed choice.
Two other items on the agenda will allow council members time to reflect on matters that are slated for decisions the following night during the regular Salida City Council meeting.

Community Stage for F Street
Arts and Culture Director Michael Varnum will update council members on the community stage, proposed for the south end of the 200 block of F Street, across from Natural Grocers.
Following requests heard at multiple work sessions and council meetings, proponents have gathered numerous letters of support and made detailed plans to liven up the F Street Plaza and support local performing artists.
The Public Art Commission has approved spending up to $25,000 for the purchase of the stage and the funding is available in the Commission’s 2022 budget.
“Open Doors” RV Rental Program Update
Rounding out the agenda will be a presentation by Community Development Director Bill Almquist on the “Open Doors” RV Rental Program at Salida RV Resort.

The program, in conjunction with the CHA seeks to expand opportunities for interim workforce housing through the purchase of up to ten, used RVs to house local workers.
Monday’s discussion will offer a chance for council members to work through multiple lease and rental documents related to the program, prior to consideration as Resolution 2022-27 on June 7. The documents include the proposed master lease agreement with the Salida RV Resort, a subtenant lease agreement, and applications for both employers and workforce tenants, among others.
While public hearings are not held during work sessions, presenters and the public may attend Salida City Council in person to listen. Or, those desiring to listen in real-time (virtually) are asked to please register for the City Council Work Session at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8054749917914710285.
