Did you know that you are required to have any vehicle you own registered?

  • What if it’s not running? Yep, still needs to be registered.
  • What if it’s in my garage and not on the roads? Yep, still needs registered.
  • What if aliens came from Mars and took my Buick with them? Report it stolen.

The state requires any vehicle/ trailer that you own is to be registered. Registration fee calculations are based on the vehicle year, original value, and weight. Details at C.R.S. 42.1.102(81) C.R.S. 42-3-102 & 42-6-140.

Purchased a new or new-to-you vehicle? You have 60 days from the date of purchase to get your vehicle registered without incurring late fees. Just moved from out of state? You have 90 days from the date you officially
moved here to get your vehicle registered without incurring late fees. There are additional requirements for out of state vehicles being registered, please call our office for details.

Late fees are calculated as $25 per month, with a cap of $100 for vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes, and some camper trailers (depending on size). Trailers are a flat late fee of $10. If your vehicle has already been registered and you are late on your renewal, you do have a grace period. You have until the last business day of the month following your renewal to pay. (i.e. if your renewal is December, you would have until the last business day of January to renew it). Your renewal month will remain the same, even if you are 6, 9, or 12 months late

Proof of insurance is required to get your vehicle registered. Please have your insurance card ready when you come in to do your initial registration or renewal.
