Those hoping for a scenic drive along CR 371 on the east side of the Arkansas River through the Midland Tunnels this week will have a one-week of reprieve when you can still drive through the tunnels before planned Chaffee County roadwork. The Road Stabilization project originally scheduled to begin on Monday, April 11, has been set back one week to Monday, April. 18.

The roadwork is necessary to stabilize the roadways of CR 371 from further erosion on either end of the tunnels. The closure is expected to last right up until Memorial Day, with the plan still to reopen the road on May 27, in time for Memorial Day weekend.
