Colorado Creates grants to further the arts in 28 Colorado counties

On Tuesday, Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), announced the FY2023 recipients of the Colorado Creates Grant Program. A total of 121 grants will distribute $834,500 to arts organizations and communities across 28 Colorado counties, many of them rural counties, including Custer and Fremont counties. Absent from the awards were Lake, Chaffee and Park counties.

“Now more than ever, the arts create community and bring people together to experience joy and celebration. Colorado Creates grants provide critical support to arts and cultural organizations across the state as they provide these opportunities,” said CCI Director Margaret Hunt. “Over time, we have also seen that these grants position recipients to apply for and receive additional funding, extending the impact even further. We’re proud to help communities bring their visions to life.”

In this grant cycle, 46 percent of grant funds were awarded to rural communities. The recipient category that received the highest number of grants represented Colorado’s smallest arts and cultural organizations—those operating with less than $100,000 annually.

Receiving awards in this immediate region were the Florence Arts Council and the Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts.

In neighboring Gunnison County two arts organizations received grants: the Crested Butte Music Festival and the Gunnison Council for the Arts, dba Gunnison Arts Center,

Colorado Creates is CCI’s oldest grant program, providing critical financial support to nonprofit cultural organizations and government agencies of all sizes as they produce arts and cultural activities that enhance quality of life and bring jobs to their communities. As part of the award, grant recipients will be eligible for a second round of funding within 12 months after submitting a mid-cycle report. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis and the next application deadline for Colorado Creates is spring 2023.
